Guy David Payne, 48, of Davenport, Wash., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2006, at his home in Davenport.

Burial was held at the Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colo., Dec. 27, with military honors. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Chapel of Strate Funeral Home in Davenport.

Payne was born Oct. 16, 1958, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to James E. and Sue (Neal) Payne. He graduated as valedictorian of the 1977 Gould High School senior class.

After high school, he attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He then become active in the military from 1981 to 1989 and then joined the WA Air National Guard in 1992. He left the military career, as a Lt. Colonel.

On Dec. 20, 1986, he married Catherine Grassell in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

In 1989, he became a pilot for Alaska Airline until he retired on June 11, 2006, due to his illness.

He was a member of the Trinity Bible Fellowship, VFW, and worked with the Cub Scouts, a 4-H leader and was a volunteer bus driver for Christian Heritage School. He was also an Academy Liason Officer for the Air Force. He was a loving husband, father and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Payne of the home; three children, Katie, Angela and David Payne, all of the home; his mother, Sue Kendrick of Davenport; his father J.E. Payne of Hollis; and one sister; Donna Wingo, of Houston.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Heritage School and Scholarship Program, Edwall, WA 99008.
