Linda Harper met with a group of quilters called Memory Makers once a month and taught a quilting lesson at each meeting. Several members of this group have also been meeting since before Christmas every Wednesday evening to sew quilts for wounded soldiers. These quilts are called “Quilts of Valor” and are usually constructed in patriotic colors and prints. Quilts range in size from wheelchair size to stretcher size. The group will continue to meet throughout the year as long as quilts are needed.

Each quilter is asked to attach a label and/or a pocket with information about themselves and encouragement to the soldier.

Memory Makers will be sending 14 completed quilts this week. The American Legion, John S. Kerr Post #49 at Frederick has agreed to provide postage for the mailing of these quilts. Not all quilts go to Walter Reed anymore. Some go directly to Germany, the hospital where the soldiers go to first, and some go to local VA centers, or bases. The quilts are made by Marlene Thayer, Roxie Collins, Wilhelmina Ensing, Ine Everkes, Glenda Lorah, Mary Helen Gonzales, Patti Stapp, JoAnn Marugg and Linda Harper. The coordinator of the group is Linda Harper.
