Myrtle Irean Denton Downen, 53, of Altus, died Feb. 23, 2007, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Service in Hollis with the Rev. David Player, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, officiating. Interment will be at Dryden Cemetery in Harmon County. There will be a visitation with the family today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Hollis.

She was born June 8, 1953 in Altus to Jesse Woodrow (J W) and Wanda Ruth Kerbo Denton. She graduated from Gould High School in 1972 and then received an associate degree from Western Oklahoma State College in Altus. She was a past member of District 151 and GNHA. She was a 4-H volunteer and a Jackson County Free Fair superintendent and judge. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Altus. She had a home daycare for 18 years. She enjoyed reading, watching “Wheel of Fortune,” playing computer games and listening to country music. But mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer and her husband Zack Tucker of Tipton; one son, Jerry Lynn Downen of Altus; her father, J. W. Denton of Hollis; one brother, Woodrow Denton and his wife Joyce of Hollis; two sisters, Cora Miranda and her husband Keith of Gould, and Jean Denton of Hollis; four nephews, Jeremy Denton and his wife Susan, Erick Miranda, Jason Miranda and Troy Gibbons; one niece, Tiffany Denton; two great-nephews, J. J. Denton and Hunter Miranda; one great-niece, Ashley Denton; and by her very special friends, Edna Jackson, Vera Bearden, Geneva Plew-Welch, Cathy Froelich and Joann Leamon.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Denton in 1992; one nephew, Samuel Denton in 1981; and her grandparents.
