At approximately 1030 p.m. Friday night, deputies assigned to the Coop Services observed a white male approach the anhydrous storage tank and begin filling a container with anhydrous ammonia. At this time, he was taken into custody by Grandfield Chief of Police William “Chip” Jones, and Reserve Deputies Kent Smith, Randy Hasley, and Jason Cowan. Upon questioning the individual he identified his co-conspirators to officers. Sheriff Bobby Whittington and Undersheriff Bryan Smith located the other suspects as they were attempting to leave the Grandfield area and subsequently arrested the individuals.

“This was a cooperative operation between our Sheriff Department, Cotton County Sheriff Department, and the Grandfield Police Department” said Sheriff Whittington. “Since the passage of the Nik Green bill in 2004, we have seen a decline in the number of meth labs we deal with here in Tillman County, however, it is still an ongoing criminal activity in our county and state.” Sheriff Whittington praised the cooperation between the agencies involved and also the reserve deputies of the Tillman County Sheriff Department. “Without these individuals, the surveillance operation that we conducted over the weekend would not have been possible.” Members of the Tillman County Sheriff Department that participated in the operation were: Sheriff Bobby Whittington, Undersheriff Bryan Smith, Deputies Mark Stouffer, Allen Brown, Randy Hasley, Kent Smith, Jason Cowan, Derek Collom, and Dolan Freeman, along with Grandfield Chief of Police Chip Jones. Cotton County Deputies that assisted were: Undersheriff Tim King, Deputies Walter Brister, Casey Wyatt, Larry Cassell and Bill Anders.
