ALTUS - April 15-21 is National Library Week and each year it is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide - and the perfect time for our community to come together at your library.

The Altus and Hollis Public Libraries are celebrating National Library Week with their annual Booklover's Sale on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, at the main branch in Altus. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Donna Smith, Altus Branch Head Librarian, said the money from the booksale benefits the libraries in many ways. “It allows us to bring in quality performers for the children and teens during summer program at the Hollis branch and Altus branch. It also provides extra money to purchase things for the library we would not normally be able to afford. The Annual Booklover's Sale is a way for our communities to come together and show their support.”

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April.

“Every day, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in business help transform their communities,” says Smith. “At our library, people of all backgrounds can come together for community meetings, lectures and programs, to do research with the assistance of trained professionals, or to find homework help, or to find help learning to read or speak English through our literacy programs.
