Duncan fired out to a 4-0 first inning lead and coasted to a 9-1 run-rule victory over the Bulldogs.
The Demons got a solo homer from starting and winning pitcher Tyler King and a three-run round tripper from Vince Limke to score the first inning runs and the tone was set for the game.
“That wasn't the way I would have liked us to play,” Rubi said. “The home runs shed some dampers on the whole game. That frustrates me. We didn't show any fight. Last four games we did show some fight. Four runs is nothing for us. We were so frustrated, we just kind of quit mentally.”
Altus got their lone run in the bottom of the first inning after Blake Stepanovich and Tyrese Flagg walked. Trent Harvick hit a line shot to left field for a base hit to load the bases. Stepanovich then scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Hamilton.
Duncan scored once in the third, once in the fourth and three times in the fifth inning. The final three runs came on an inside the park home run by Trent Wilkins. Wilkins hit a line shot to centerfield. AHS center fielder Kirk Luebking narrowly missed making a diving catch. The ball then rolled to the fence.
Altus had four hits on the day. Harvick, Braden Warren, Derrick Bull and Arron Hayes all had singles.
Bulldog notes: Three seniors on the AHS team were honored before the game. Luebking, Flagg and Hayes played their final game at Kiwanis Park.
Altus finished its regular season with an 8--13 record. They will meet El Reno in the first game of the Class 5A Regional Tournament at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasha.
