Urbanski said that now that the BRAC Commission is behind us, and with over 27 new commercial projects on the books in Altus and developers looking at Altus for more retail prospects, they can see a bright future for our area of the state. To ensure quality growth for the future the Chamber is working harder than ever with new economic development prospects daily.
A long term goal of your Altus Chamber of Commerce has been to have their own headquarters building. The proposed new facility will provide space to operate expanded programs, establish a new front door to our community, to greet the thousands of visitors with our new image and to reflect our confidence in the future. ‘Altus - .A City On the Move.'” she said.
The Chamber is asking all for donations to cover the cost of purchasing and remodeling the building. Donations can be made to the chamber's building fund or the foundation's building fund. A donation to the chamber is tax deductible as a business expense and a donation to the foundation is a tax deductible as a charitable expense to either a business or individual. If enough money is raised, we may be able to get into the building debt free. As always, thanks to the generosity of our membership, Altus, as a community, is on the move.
Meetings will be held from 8am to 9 am and 4 pm to 5 pm each day from June 11 through June 15th. A briefing will be presented showing the layout of the new facility, the remodeling plans and a time line for the move. Input is being sought from members of the Altus Chamber of Commerce and the general public on what they want to see in the new “front door” to the community and Jackson County. The Altus Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1908 as the Altus Commercial Club. Historically, the chamber is the organization made up of members from the business community who want growth and development for our area. From 1908 to today, staff and members of the chamber have worked collectively to foster growth. From railroads, agriculture, new business establishments, Altus Junior College, now WOSC, water, highway development, commercial airline service, tourism, Quartz Mountain Lodge, Lurgert Altus Irrigation District, Altus AFB, and the list goes on and on. Many projects never end, they just require more work.
We see a bright future for our area and with the new chamber facility, we can project a progressive community image.
