The theme for this year's summer activity program “Oklahoma Kids: A Kaleidoscope” is part of the Oklahoma Centennial Celebration and will focus on famous Oklahoma kids. The program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council and many local sponsors who give generously to the summer program. Without them it would not be possible for the library to bring in the talented performers we have each summer.
There are many ways for your children to participate in the summer program. At 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday morning during June and July there will be films for preschoolers through second grade. There will be one or two films each session and the program will last about 30 to 45 minutes. Snacks will also be available.
At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays there will be a storytime for kids 3 years old and up. The reading will last 30 minutes.
Each Thursday afternoon during June and July will be for the whole family. This is when the library will present some of the most talented performers in the state of Oklahoma. Most of the programs will start at 2 p.m. The exception will be the first program with Native American Storytellers, Mahenwahdose. Their program will be at 1 p.m. June 7.
Another way for kids to participate is with the library's reading promotion. Each registered kid will receive prizes for reading through June and July. The books must come from the library and each child must be registered to participate.
Each week a new craft project will be available for the kids to take home and work on. Some of the projects may require glue or tape and the average time for completion is about 15 to 20 minutes. There will also be coloring and activity pages available.
