ALTUS - Tommy Phelps with the city electric department said that two poles went down about 6 a.m. today leaving 2,000 customers without power.

Phelps said that the high winds that blew through Altus last week apparently broke the poles in the 300 block of N. Lee. “We didn't know the poles were broken until they finally gave way and went down,” Phelps said.

Once crews found the source of he problem, they lifted some jumpers to open circuits from the main line and got power back on within 20 minutes.
