Thirty young adults are bicycling across the United States raising funds and awareness for affordable housing. They started in Jacksonville, Fla., and are making their way to San Francisco. They will arrive in Altus on Friday afternoon and will present their program “Affordable Housing and Bike Safety,” at 8 p.m. on the west side of the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road.
All are invited to come and meet these young bikers and hear about their trip across the United States. Along the way they are stopping and spending time building with groups who do affordable housing.
For more information about each of the young adults on this trek you can go to their Web site www.bikeandbuild.com and click on the southern route.
They will leave Saturday after their 7 a.m. breakfast at the Altus McDonalds on Broadway. All who are interested can ride out with them as they head for Santa Fe, N.M.
This year they will be raising funds for the gulf region. They wrote: “The trip's proceeds will be contributed to the Slidell Habitat for Humanity. We are pleased to be helping a region in such need. Though now largely out of the national press spotlight, this area is in dire need of both volunteers and support and we are all very satisfied to know that Our efforts are contributing to a need so great.”
