The American Cancer Society will be hosting a “Relay-4-Life,” overnight campaign from 7 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Altus Junior High School. Threshold Services, a faith-based, inter-denominational organization that assists Altus Community Work Center residents, will hold a car wash for donations Saturday, July 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McDonald's. The group meets at 5 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the First Presbyterian Church (208 E. Cypress) and welcomes attendance of anyone interested in learning more. ABY Pop Warner League will take volunteer applications for tackle football and cheer-leading coach from now until August 31. This year's Pop Warner season will begin on Sept. 1. For more information or to register as a coach, please call 649-0354. 

A Better Youth Pop Warner League is offering free tackle football and cheer-leading registration to children who participate on the free and reduced lunch programs at schools. Children ages 5 through 15 are encouraged to register for youth tackle football. Parents can also save $20 if they register their child on-line at www.eteamz.com/abypopwarner. Red River Toastmasters meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday, in the Francis Herron seminar center in the Great Plains Technology Center. Toastmasters members learn public speaking and leadership by working with others in a fun and supportive environment. Guests and prospective members are very welcome.

Mission on Wheels needs donations of clothes for its free clothes give-away, particularly summer clothes for children and adults. Other items besides clothes are also accepted especially fans. An account has been set up for Mitchell Rodgers, 30, of Altus has been diagnosed with a rare and chronic disease known as “Meniere's Disease.” Funds are needed to help with the cost to have a must-needed surgery. Donations can be made at the First State Bank of Altus to “The Mitchell Rodgers Medical Fund.”

Red Cross responded to aThe Tornado Alley Road Riders will meet at 9 a.m. on July 15 at the Community Center on Falcon Road to ride to the south shore of Lake Altus, pavilion #1, for a provided lunch. Cost to join the ride is three non-perishable food items and one or more personal toileteries. The items will go to the Community Cupboard and ACMI House. For more information, call P.J. The Assessor Office will be closed July 24-27 so that all employees may attend the Oklahoma Tax Commission Educational Conference.
