Southwest Technology Center will host the free workshop, “Oklahoma's 2007 Immigration Bill,” 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Aug.15.
House Bill 1804, which as signed into law as the “Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007” includes a number of important things that relate to anyone who pays someone for services whether they are business owners, farmers or home owners, according to Dianna Thompson, SWTC business development coordinator.
The new law requires the denial of state identification to illegal immigrants and specific requirements be met before benefits to illegal immigrants in Oklahoma are authorized. Also work authorization must be verified through an electronic database.
These items as well as others that will affect individuals who employ others will be the subject of information presented at the workshop.
Lynette Parmley will serve as the program presenter. She is the vice president of human resources with C.L. Frates & Company/Bancinsure, Inc., Society of Human Resource Managers State Council Legislative Core Leader and chairman of the State Chamber's human resource committee. In addition, she has been an active participant on several state committees that have worked on aspects of this bill.
