Date and theme set for this year's Christmas parade

The 27th annual Altus Christmas Parade is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. The route runs from Western Oklahoma State College south on Main Street to Commerce Street where it disbands.

This year's parade theme is "Oklahoma Heritage - A Centennial Christmas." The Altus Chamber of Commerce organizes the parade with Debbie Davis as chairwoman. The parade is a community project with the city of Altus, WOSC and Altus Air Force Base and other volunteers providing many needed services.

The Parade Grand Marshals this year are Mayor of the Year T.L. Gramling and his wife Nelda Gramling.

There is no entry fee to participate, as local business and industr underwrite and sponsor the cost of the parade. Ed Fayak, Lee Office Equipment is chairman of the fund raising for the parade.

Prizes will be awarded to float entries in five categories: Grand Marshall $300; First Place, School and Youth $200; First Place, Church $200; First Place, Civic & Commercial $200; and First Place, Altus Air Force Base $200.

Entry applications are available at the Altus Chamber of Commerce. Stop by the office at 123 W. Commerce Street 5th Floor or call 482-0210.

Deadline for entries is 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2.
