Four separate incidents of shots fired were reported to the Altus Police over the weekend; however, local officials do not believe that the incidents are related to one another.

The first report of shots fired came in on Friday a few minutes after 7 p.m. near S. Kennedy and the 200 blk of E. Everett. Later on in the early Saturday morning hours another call-in came at 12:29 a.m., this time reporting at least 3 shots had been fired 3 blks east of 616 W. Liveoak.

On Sunday, 30 minutes after police responded to a disturbing the peace complaint in the 1100 blk of Hickory, someone reported 4-5 possible shots had been fired nearby.

The last incident occurred last night around 8:20 p.m. when APD dispatch took a call regarding 2 shots possibly fired near 1000 E. Broadway.

According to APD Asst. Chief of Police, Mike Howeth, the investigating officers have not yet determined if the weekend shots are related to the recent rash of drive-by shootings here in the city.

“I think we have the majority of the problem under control with the last 2 arrests we've made,” he said.

Chief Howeth did stress that the matter is still an ongoing investigation and he sees this gang-related problem slowly being resolved.
