FREDERICK - Zack Dunlap, 21, of Frederick, was seriously injured Saturday while riding his ATV.
According to Tillman County's Highway Patrolman Scott Hazle, Dunlap was driving a 2005 Honda 450R around 7:30 p.m. on Weaver Road about one-half mile west of Davidson with a friend when the accident occurred.
Dunlap's vehicle struck his friend's vehicle in the rear causing it to rotated 180 degrees and was ejected from his ATV.
He was taken by Tillman County Ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital and was air evacuated to United Regional Health Center in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was initially admitted in serious condition with head and internal trunk injuries.
Although Dunlap was pronounced legally dead at 11:10 a.m. Monday morning, latest reports say that he is now on ventilation and remains in critical condition.
Dunlap is an organ donor, and friends and family had been called in to tell him goodbye before surgery. On the way to surgery, Dunlap began moving and was taken back to ICU where more tests were performed. Doctors have since detected brain activity. Dunlap remains in ICU and is listed in critical condition.
According to the OHP report, the accident occurred on a two-lane, asphalt road surface in clear, dry weather.
