Lady Bulldogs lose heartbreaker to Cache

CACHE - The Altus High Lady Bulldogs made a good comeback only to see that effort fall short in their game with Cache Saturday night in the Cache Basketball Festival.

The Lady Buldogs lost a 52-47 heartbreaker in overtime.

Altus was trailing 41-38 when they came up with a big play to send the game into overtime.

With 10.1 seconds left Cache's Taylor Thompson made one free throw but missed her second opportunity. That left the door open for Altus. Meagan Steen rebounded and the Lady Bulldogs rushed the ball up the floor, There was jump ball and the possession was in Altus' favor.

The Lady Bulldogs had the ball in the front court, but there was only two seconds left on the clock.

AHS coach David Prickett called time out to plot strategy. When play resumed Dashaniece Harris inbounded a pass to Steen, who launched a three-point shot that was true to the mark at the buzzer. That sent the game into overtime.

Steen gave Altus the lead when she hit a fielder early in overtime. Later Michelle Marcha hit a shot to make it 45-42. However, Cache scored 10 of the next 12 points to pull the game out.

Altus is now 1-2 on the season. They will play Childress, Texas in the first round of the Lady Bulldog Classic on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
