According to Altus Police Chief Mike Patterson, another round of phone scams are being made to Altus residents.

“This time they are telling people that they are with Social Security or the IRS and tell people that they have an extra check for them,” Patterson said.

“What it all boils down to is that they are trying to get people's bank account numbers,” explained Patterson.

They tell people money will be deposited into their accounts. “When they get your bank account number, they will wipe you out.”

Patterson warns anyone getting a call where someone wants your bank account number, no matter who they say they are, don't give it to them.

“If you didn't make the call, you don't know who you are really talking to,” Patterson warned.
