Carl Sidney Smith, a life-time resident of Altus, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, with his children at his side. Born Feb. 17, 1924, he was the son of George and Sophia Smith. In August of 1945, he married Tommy Lee Patton, the mother of his four children.

He is survived his children, Carla Goldsmith and husband Larry of Dallas, Monty Smith of Magnolia, Texas, Kim Banister and husband Gary of Flower Mound, Texas, and Melody Brewer of Rockwall, Texas; nine grandchildren, Shelby, Mycah, Whitney, Gatlin, Wade, Marcy, Landon, LeeAnn and Dana; two great-grandchildren, Camryn and Chloe; one loving sister, Katie Lou Tomlinson of Concordia, Kan.; sister-in-law, Virginia Sue Smith of Crowell, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Carl's lifetime was spent doing what he loved most, farming and ranching. Being outdoors, working with horses and cattle gave him his greatest joy. He was a “cowboy” in the truest sense of the word, who, at age 62, broke his last horse, Nevada. His kind heart and sweet nature will always be remembered and missed by his loved ones.

The family will received friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Ray Mims officiating. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims.
