At Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Altus City Council, the matter of changing the current 4-day work back to 5 will be reviewed, discussed and voted on.

Council had previously established by majority vote to a standard work week of 4 10-hour days a week, Monday through Thursday. With limited exceptions, City staff has worked in accordance with that schedule all summer.

It has since (and most recently since daylight hours are less), been requested by some departments that they change work hours to a more typical 5 day, 8-hour days, Monday through Friday work week.

Discussions have included what are the best criteria when considering accessibility to the public, reduced daylight hours and impact on safety, allowing each department to set their won flexible hours. Although flexible hours have some attractiveness, the base work hours need to be constant across the city.

This is a common practice in a lot of communities to work a 4/10 during the spring and summer and 5/8 during the fall and winter.
