The 31st Annual Altus Christmas Parade will step off from Western Oklahoma State College at 3 p.m. sharp this Sunday, Dec. 4. The line-up will occur in the south parking lot of Western Oklahoma State College, and a map can be seen on page 11 of today’s edition.

For safety purposes, only parade entries will be allowed to park in the south parking lot of Western Oklahoma State College. Safety first is our motto when lining up for the parade! A traffic format will allow parents to drive on the west side of the south parking lot, drop their children off and then drive around to the north side of the college to exit or park.

Parking will be available on the north side of the college. You can also enter the college through the main entrance horseshoe off of Main Street, drop your children and then depart.

To help keep the line-up organized, all entries are asked to know their entry number when they arrive at the college.

All horses are to be unloaded at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 West Tamarack Road.

Float entries need to be in place no later than 1 p.m. as judging begins at this time. All other entries should be in place no later than 2:30 p.m. as the parade begins at 3 p.m.

The parade will begin at Western Oklahoma State College (2801 N. Main) proceed south on North Main to Commerce Street. The parade entries will then disperse as follows: Odd # entries will go West on Commerce St. to various parking lots. Even # entries will go East on Commerce St. to parking lots around City Hall. All trucks will go south to Broadway St.

Our parade theme is “A Child’s Christmas”. Debbie Davis is the Chairman of the Christmas Parade Action Group. The parade is a community project with the Altus Chamber of Commerce, City of Altus, WOSC and Altus Air Force Base representatives providing many needed services.

The reviewing stand will be placed in front of First Baptist Church, 300 North Main Street. The Parade Grand Marshals this year are the members of the Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers Baseball Team, Kurt Russell Coach who are the national champions of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II World Series.

Rodger Kerr, Chairman of the Board of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, Colonel Tony Krawietz, Commander 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus AFB and Mayor David Webb and their families will be on the reviewing stand. Others on the reviewing stand include Debbie Davis, Chairman of the Altus Parade and Holley Urbanski, President of the Altus Chamber.
