One dead, one seriously injured in Sunday accident near Hollis

An accident 2.5 miles west of Hollis early Sunday morning on US Hwy 62 in Harmon County left one dead and one seriously injured.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2011 International driven by Quentin Trunnell, 34, of Dallas, was taken by Harmon County EMS and then air evaced to Parkland Memorial in Dallas where he was admitted in serious condition with head and internal injuries. His passenger, Frederick Q. Smith, 45, of Arlington,Texas, died at the scene of massive internal and external injuries.

The report states that Trunnell was west bound on Hwy 62 around 3 a.m. when he ran off the left side of the roadway for about 255 feet before impacting an embankment.

Seatbelts were equipped and in use by the driver, and unknown use by the passenger. Airbags were not equipped.
