The WOSC Rodeo Team

had an outstanding weekend

at the rodeo hosted by Garden

City Community College

in Garden City, Kansas

last weekend, winning the

Championship Men’s Team;

All Around Cowboy; Team

Roping; and Goat Tying

Titles. As well, WOSC laid

claim to the Reserve Titles in

Steer Wrestling, Tie Down

Roping, and Barrel Racing.

Billy Boldon, a sophomore

from South Dakota, capitalized

on his winning performance

at the Kansas State

University Rodeo and continued

to gather points with

another great weekend in the

steer wrestling. He won the

first round of competition

with a 4.0 second run; won

sixth in the short-round and

ended the weekend fifth in

the average.

Boldon, also qualified for

the short-round in the calf

roping with his first round

time of 10.3 seconds. This

placed him fourth in the

round. In the short-round,

Boldon tied the fastest calf

of the weekend in 8.6 seconds

to win the round. His

cumulative time of 18.9 seconds

on two calves, earned

Boldon second place overall.

After his great weekend

in two events, Boldon also

earned the Men’s All Around

Cowboy title.

Also qualifying for the

short-round in the tie down

roping and steer wrestling

was sophomore California

native, Chant DeForest.

DeForest won third in the

first round of the tie down

roping with his 10.1 second

run. However, he missed his

short-round calf.

DeForest had an opportunity

to redeem himself

in the short-round of the

steer wrestling. With his

first-round time of 5.2 seconds,

DeForest qualified for

the short-round deep in the

field of steer wrestlers, in

sixth place. However, his

outstanding time of 4.1 seconds

in the short-round won

the round by half a second

which boosted his cumulative

time on two steers to

9.3 seconds, good enough

to finish DeForest in second

place overall.

Bryce Murray, an

Oklahoma freshman, qualified

for his second straight

short-round in the tie down

roping. His first time of 10.4

seconds placed him fifth in

the short-round field of ten

competitors. However, his

longer 12.3 second time in

the short-round left him in

seventh place, one place out

of earning any points.

The WOSC Team Ropers

were also on top of their

game last weekend. The

cousin team of Trey and

Braden Harmon along with

the team of Travis Smith

and Jesse Popescul tied for

first place in the first round

of competition with a quick

5.2 second run. Smith and

Popescul missed their steer

in the short-round, but the

Harmons earned second

place in the short-round

with a 9.0 second time. Most

importantly, though, Trey

and Braden won first place

in the average earning the

Champion Team Roping

title with their cumulative

time of 14.2 seconds on two

steers.

For the women, Micah

Samples, a Kansas sophomore,

had a great weekend

in the barrel racing. She won

third in the first round with a

13.38 second time; second in

the short-round with a 13.35

second time; and second in

the average.

As well, Carla Olstad and

Cheyenne Budvarson, two

young ladies from Alberta,

Canada, qualified for the

short-round in the goat

tying. Olstad is last year’s

defending Regional Goat

Tying Champion and All

Around Cowgirl. She is no

stranger to the short-round,

and proved that again last

weekend. Her first round

time of 6.3 seconds won

second in the round, and a

6.7 second time in the short

round placed her third in that

round. However, her time

on two head was quicker

than anyone else, and Olstad

won yet another Goat Tying

Title.

Not to be forgotten,

Budvarson had a consistent

weekend in the goat tying.

Her time of 7.0 seconds on

her first goat placed her at

the very bottom of the pack

to qualify for the short-round.

However she quickened-up

her time in the short-round

with a 6.8 second time to

place fourth in the round and

subsequently ended-up grabbing

points for sixth place in

the average.

The WOSC Rodeo Team

will travel to Ft. Scott,

Kansas this weekend.
