This meeting was held to consider the FEMA Model Floodplain Ordinance. Phil Beauchamp, Floodplain Administrator for the City, briefed the members on the small area within the City considered to be a special flood hazard in the Northeast Quadrant. This is up by Tamarack to Veterans Drive, and there are only a few older homes within that region. This has not changed, but was noted on previous maps.
When FEMA was perfomring calculations for the 2012 maps, their contractors used erroneous data. On the incorrect maps the new Hunter Pointe addition would have been in a special flood hazard area. But the City worked with FEMA to correct the defect. There are now no changes to the floodplains in the City of Altus.
The council members voted to approve the FEMA maps and in another vote approved the Emergency Ordinance since these maps were due to FEMA and the Water Resources Board by April 3.
