ELK CITY – The Altus High Lady Bulldog track team traveled north on Friday to compete in the Elk City Track Classic and came away with the team title. Altus finished ahead of Perryton, Texas and Bushland, Texas to win the meet.

Hoping to have a nice meet to get their times down, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves facing a 20-30 mph north wind, which played havoc with everyone.

Altus won three relay events as Kendra Gibson, Vetta McCaskill, Itiya Knight and Jazznae Harris won the 400 relay (51.0), Gibson McCaskill, Harris and Ashely Hughes teamed to win the 800 relay (1:49) and Christin Fairchild, Sarah Gilstad, Jorja Martel and Debra Kime took top honors in the 3200 relay.

Others taking first were Knight in the 100 dash, Harris in the 400 dash, Fairchild in the 800 run, and McCaskill in the 200 dash (26.09).

Taking second were Hughes in the 300 hurdles, Gilstad in the 800 run, Tisay Woodhouse in the discus and Gibson in the long jump (17’4”). The 1600 relay team of McCaskill, Hughes, Harris and Holly Childs also took second.

Third place finishes were recorded by Knight in the 200, Hughes in the 100 hurdles, Fairchild in the 1600 run, and Woodhouse in the shot put. After a tough week in which they ran 3 meets in seven days, the Lady Bulldogs will have some time to get back to normal this week as they travel to Duncan for the Old Conference Meet. After that they will have a week to prepare for the Class 5A Regional Track Meet which will be held at Edmond Santa Fe. The competition at the Regional will be tough as the other teams involved will be Ardmore, Bishop McGuinness, Capitol

Hill, Carl Albert, Del City, Guthrie, NW Classen, Noble and Piedmont.
