The Altus High Bulldogs had a very successful meet at the prestigious Cassady Invitational at Oklahoma City Community College on Saturday.

The boys’ team took first place in a field of 15 teams, many coming from Texas and as far away as Austin.

The girls placed 12th and qualified another relay for the state competition in February.

The top placer for the Bulldogs was Daniel Robbins. He took second in the 50-meter free style with a personal best time of 22.90 and third in the 100 meter free style with a time of 51:887.

The 200-meter freestyle state relay team composed of Robbins, Kacy Hurst, E.J. Bacon and Colten Sorrells had a season-best time of 1:38.09 for a third place finish. The 400-meter freestyle relay team was fourth with a state qualifying time of 3:48.12. Michael Rogers, Kris Hurst, Kacy Hurst and Sorrels swam on the relay.

Bacon qualified for the state competition in the 100-meter breasstroke with a time of 1:11.00 for a fifth place finish. He was also fifth in the 100-meter free style with a state time of 55:41.

Other Bulldog swimmers contributing to the win were Chris McMahon, Dalton Latham, Brady George, Chris Cheaney, Taylor Cole, Kevin Burns, Brandon Alcorta, Kyle Jencks, Cody Charles and Shane Foshee.

The girls’ team qualified for state in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 4:36.60. The relay members were Amanda Latham, Jamie Anderson, Maria Mendez and Talia Case. The 200-meter freestyle relay also swam a season-best time of 2:02.85, which was also a state qualifying time. Jessica Roy, Latham, Anderson and Mendez made up the relay.

“I was so proud of our swimmers this weekend. Most had personal best times in all of their events and several athletes lacked one second or several hundredths to qualify for the state competition. We are swimming very well for this point in the season,” coach Linda Wiginton said.
