Firefighters with the Altus Fire Department will be participating in a regional Combat Challenge Saturday in Lawton. The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Commanche Nation Casino, located at 402 SE Interstate Drive.

Due to the Altus Firefighters hosting the Burn Out during this weekend’s Rock-N-Rumble Car Show and Cruise, only one team will be participating in the Lawton even that will include relays and tandems.

The Firefighter Combat Challenge is an event held throughout the United States where firefighters compete in fire/rescue related events. The Firefighter Combat Challenge events are based on duties firefighters have to do when fighting a fire.

The challenge includes a linked series of five tasks including climbing a 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. “victim” as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.

Assistant Fire Chief Jimmy Rogers said that the local Team Dr. Pepper Combat Challenge Teams will both be competing again on May 26 in Farmers Branch, Texas.
