A Mangum woman was driving home from Elk City Thursday afternoon when she saw a man lying in the ditch. When she stopped to check on him, he attacked her.

According to reports from the Greer County Sheriff’s Department, as the woman was being attacked by the man, she threw her car keys out into a field, preventing the man from taking her car.

When the man started going through her purse, she got back in the car and locked the doors. The man took off on foot.

The incident happened on US Highway 283 about a 1 1/2 miles south of Willow around 1 p.m. Thursday. The assailant was described only as a black male.

The Greer County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the OHP helicopter in searching for the man, but he was not found.

As of this morning, the suspect still has not been found.

If you have any information about this case, the Greer County Sheriff’s Office asks that you call them at 580-782-3065.
