Evelyn Ernestine Thompson, 82, of Mangum, passed away late Sunday evening, May 20, 2012, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Mangum on Nov. 10, 1929, to Ernest David and Tennie Faye (Howell) Parker. Living in Mangum all of her life, Ernestine graduated from Mangum High School in 1947. At the age of 15, she began working at Temple Theater and later began work at Vuemore Cable Company and retired 38 years later from Cableone, in November 1996. On March 4, 1961, she married Emmett Clay “Tom” Thompson, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1991. In her spare time, Ernestine enjoyed line dancing and was a line dancer with the “Silver Bells”. She also enjoyed reading, playing almost any card game, along with Joker Board and Farkle. Ernestine was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Mangum and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Jane Johnson; one brother, Roy G. Betts; and two daughters, baby Jana Jo Thompson and Ginger Renslow.

She is survived by one daughter, Sherri Banister of Oklahoma City; one sister, Ella Mae Thompson of Altus; four grandchildren, Hali Baber, Lexi Banister, Craig Renslow and Lorien Hess; along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Mangum First Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
