‘Summer Fun For Everyone’ pull-out coming soon

“Summer Fun For Everyone” pull-out section may be the answer to that all familiar whine, “There’s nothing to do in Altus.”

Every summer kids bounce out of school with anticipation of all the fun things ahead of them. A few days later, many of them are staring at the walls in boredom. The Altus Times hopes to provide a few ideas to help prevent that all too familiar whine, “There’s nothing to do in Altus.” See the Altus Times four-page pull-out section in the Sunday, June 10 edition for lots of family (and children) friendly activities.

Some local events are happening before June 10.

Altus Air Force Base Youth Center is holding a “Teen Wave Pool Party”, Friday, June 8 at the AAFB pool from 8 to 10 p.m. This is for youth ages 13 to 18. It’s $8 for members and $10 for non-members which includes pool entry, pizza and drinks. Pre-register and receive $1 off. For registration information, call 580-481-7903.

Altus City Library will host a Prismacolor Art Workshop for grades 3 through 5 is scheduled for Monday, June 4, Tuesday, June 5, Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $25. Call 580-477-2890 for more information.

Altus City Parks and Recreation Department baseball and softball sign-ups are booked for this season. Games begin May 29 and finish up around June 30.

Altus City Swimming Pool will hold enrollment for swimming lessons on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $40 to $45 per session. The three sessions for swimming lessons are: June 4 to 14, June 18 to 28, and July 2 to 12. Pool summer hours are 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. beginning Friday, May 25. Admission is $3.00 per session.

The Altus City Council is working to approve season passes for the Altus City Swimming Pool. An ordinance for the summer passes will be considered at one of the next meetings. The following has been proposed regarding the summer passes: valid from the day after Altus High School graduation through Labor Day Weekend; individual pass is $75; summer pass for a family of four is $200; each additional family member is $50; if someone loses a pass, he or she is charged $10 to reprint the pass; passes must be presented to the cashier each time the individual enters the facility.

Swimming Parties held at the Altus City Swimming Pool: summer party price during open hours is $75 from one to twenty guests. Each additional guest is $3. Each party is allotted two hours. Payment is required at time of the reservation. Seventy-two hours notice is required for any changes. Reservations are subject to availability. Summer parties include access to the slides. Altus Public Schools APS is holding a Bulldog Wrestling Camp at Altus High School from June 18 to 21 for 7th to 12th graders. Call 580-318-2041 for more information. Register soon.

Western Oklahoma State College Summer 2012 Kid’s College is enrolling now. Classes will be held in four sessions, beginning Monday, June 4 and ending Friday, June 29. Classes back by popular demand: CSI Altus, Robotics, Digital Photography, Adventures in Art, Caketastic, Babysitting 101, Karate, and Dog Training.
