Irmgard was born June 17, 1928, in Karf, Oberschlesien, Germany, to Heinricht and Anna Plasa. She married J.L. Loftis Aug. 12, 1959, in Baumholder, Germany, while he was serving his country in the United States Army. Irmgard was very proud to be the wife of an honorable soldier, and she considered her husband a true American hero. She became an American citizen on April 2, 1963, of which she was so proud. Her wonderful husband preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2000.
Irmgard worked at the Base Exchange as a store clerk at the Altus Air Force Base for several years. She loved to read, watch old movies, and take care of her precious dogs. Irmgard constantly walked with her dogs and treated them as her “babies.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Heinricht and Anna Plasa; her husband, J.L. Loftis; one brother, Josef Plasa; and her sister-in-law, Wanda Kirkland.
Irmgard is survived by two brothers, Hans Plasa of Germany, and Horst Plasa and wife Helga, also of Germany; her brother-in-law, George Kirkland of Altus; nieces in Oklahoma: Kay Callen and Pam Smith and her husband Danny, all of Altus; great-nieces, Jennifer Lechuga and her children Brook and Andrew of Altus, Jaclyn Kendall and husband Jeremy and their children Jayli and J.J. of Mangum, Emily Jones and husband Chris and their children, Abigail and Jozie of Perry; and several nieces and nephews in Germany, along with other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Lowell-Tims Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Sundar Pudota officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be held later at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
