Council to meet in special session Friday to discuss hangar sale, private prison issue
A special meeting of the Altus Municipal Trust and Altus City Council will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday to consider, discuss and vote on a resolution to terminate the 2003 ground lease between the City and the Altus Municipal Authority for lands at the municipal airport related to Hangar #33, and to have any future long term leases executed in the name of the City of Altus to ratify all actions and votes related to the Southwest Technology Center lease.
The move is in relation to the consideration to sell the large hangar at the Altus/Quartz Mountain Regional Airport to SWTC for $1 million. SWTC has been a tenant at the facility since 1998 and wants to expand its aviation programs.
At this special called meeting, the council will consider and vote on authorizing a purchase and sale agreement with SWTC.
Also during the meeting, the Council will consider and discuss a presentation to create a new Public Trust Authority to construct and manage a medium security detention facility in Altus. It is said that the new facility would create 200 new jobs.
If approved, the facility would be called the Altus Correctional Facilities Authority. Comments from the audience will be heard.
