According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, at approximately 3:38 a.m Sunday morning, June 17, officers of the Altus Police Department responded to a disturbance and possible fight in progress at 501 E. Commerce. After arriving, officers discovered that a subject was a victim of a robbery. Chief Murphy said, “The victim stated the suspect showed him a gun that was in his waistband and demanded a necklace that the victim was wearing. After giving the necklace to the suspect, the victim and his friend were beaten up.”

Unknown to the police who arrived on the scene, Francisco Gomez, is a friend of the robbery victim. Gomez attempted to run from the scene and officers pursued him on foot. After being told many times to stop, officers finally caught him in approximately the 600 block of E. Cypress. Gomez was arrested on charges of public intoxication and resisting officers.

Chief Murphy said, “The victim of the robbery later signed a refusal to file charges and his friend refused to cooperate with investigators.”
