Auva was born May 17, 1924, in Duke to Claude Elmer and Ruby Baker McElroy. She married Massey Neal Whitley and together they raised one son. Neal was in the Air Force so Auva was fortunate to be able to live in several places including Japan, Wichita Falls, and Osceola, WI. Upon his retirement, they ran their own business in Wichita Falls, “Neal’s Famous Hamburgers.” Auva was a member of the Disabled American Veterans’ Association, and Eastern Star. She loved to sew, play the piano and organ, and going to garage sales. She looked forward to family visits and after being widowed three years, she moved to Wisconsin to be near her son and family in 2007.
Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Massey Neal Whitley in 2002; parents, Claude and Ruby McElroy; and brother, Alpha Lee McElroy.
Survivors include her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Leanne Whitley of Amery, WI; brother and sister-in-law, Forrest and Sue McElroy of Palmdale, CA; two grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Chelsea Whitley, Brooke and Gunnar Benware; and six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Otto, Lewis, Theodore, Reese, and Charli.
If desired, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
