Kenneth Ross Simpson, 84, of Altus, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at the First Baptist Church, McLean, Texas, with the Rev Wendell Knutson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Mr. Simpson was born on March 21, 1928, in McLean, Texas. He was the ninth child born to James Melvin and Edna Nannie (Smulcer) Simpson. Kenneth attended McLean Public Schools and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on April 11, 1946. He served during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 29, 1949, as a Sergeant. He married Bonnie Lee Willis in McLean, Texas on Jan.26, 1951. Bonnie and Kenneth resided in Hobbs, N.M., where he worked as an oilfield lease operator for the Chevron company for 45 years and retired in 1993. They moved to Altus earlier this year where he was a resident of English Village Nursing Home. Mr. Simpson was of the Baptist faith. He loved country dancing, square dancing, the Dallas Cowboys and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, C.B. “Bill”, Cecil “Babe”, the twins, Lloyd and Floyd, Frank “Griss”, and Edward “Egg” Simpson; and two sisters, Ruth Howard and Jeanette “Sis” Kennedy.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of the home; a daughter, Krista Lee Hilley and husband T.O., of Altus; two sons, Kenny Willis Simpson of Albuquerque, N.M., and Rex Simpson and wife Lisa of Conroe, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother, W.C. “Flea” Simpson of McLean, Texas.
