Martha Road Baptist Church will be hosting Amazing Wonders Aviation Vacation Bible School will be July 16 to 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. Martha Road Baptist Church is located four miles north of Altus on Highway 283. VBS is for all children ages 4 years old through the sixth grade. Parents can enroll their children online at the church website (www.martharoadbaptist.org). First Baptist Church of Olustee has cleared children going into PreK through sixth grade for takeoff through Amazing Wonders Aviation for Vacation Bible School. The trip to encounter God’s awesome power will begin July 15 through 19, from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. each evening. An early-enrollment event will be held Saturday, July 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. Hot dogs will be served. Emmanuel Baptist Church of Altus announces that it will be having a Vacation Bible School Monday through Friday, July 16 through 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. This event is free and is for children age four through those who have just finished the sixth grade. There will be music, games, snacks, prizes, and Bible stories. The Main Street Altus Board Meeting scheduled for July 19 at 8 a.m. is canceled due to board members schedule conflicts and no quorum.The next meeting is set for Thursday, Aug. 1,6 at 8 a.m. at 219 North Main.

Habitat for Humanity Community Luncheon will be hosted by Martha Road Baptist Youth Group. Menu is beef taco salad pile-up, dessert and drink. Thursday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Altus Community Center. Cost is $6 per person and proceeds go to Habitat in Altus.

The next ‘That Altus Band’ car wash fund raiser will be held on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walgreens. Band parents, students, new and current, are encouraged to help and bring your cars.

Blair Park Swing, the July fundraiser for the Blair City Park, will be held Saturday, July 28. The event will include a Softball Tournament, TradeShow with Booths, Food, and Fun for all ages. Altus Ballroom Dancers meet 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday in the east end of the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road. New couples are welcome to come for an evening of ballroom dancing. The Altus Meal Site is needing volunteers to help deliver meals to those who are homebound. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday. Any time you can give is appreciated. If you would like to volunteer call the Altus Meal Site at 580-482-1290. The Altus Meal Site is a part of Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group.

The Operation CARE Food Pantry offers free food to qualified applicants every third Saturday of the month. 10:30 Devotion and food pantry open 11 to 12 noon.

The Southwest Oklahoma Quilt Guild meets on the first Thursday of each month at Grace United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (south end of building) on South Park Lane at 10 a.m., potluck luncheon at noon, and business meeting at 1 p.m., followed by the monthly program. On the third Thursday of each month is a quilt workday, so bring a project and join in!

The Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma on the Jackson County Memorial Hospital campus is recruiting volunteer drivers for the 12-passenger van that will provide transportation for cancer patients. SW Oklahoma Action RSVP Program is asking for deactivated cell phones, complete with batteries and chargers, for their Cell-phones-for-seniors program. Phones may be dropped off at the Altus RSVP office located on the first floor of the Towers at 101 E. Commerce or the Mangum RSVP office located at 215 North Oklahoma in Mangum.

Mission on Wheels will schedule a bake sale Saturday, June 23 at Wal-Mart to raise funds for fans for the elderly. Donations of fans, summer clothing for infants, children, youth and adults is also appreciated. Non-perishable food items are also needed to help feed the hungry. A medical and travel expense fund is set up at the First State Bank in Altus for Terry Southhall who is getting a double bypass and Aortic valve replacement to be performed on March 27 in Lawton. All donations are greatly appreciated.
