Cold water and comfort given in His name

MOW’s mission statement claims the message of Matthew 25:35: “For when I was hungry, you fed me and when I was thirsty, you gave me drink…” In these hot days, if you need cold water to drink, stop by Mission on Wheels at 213 W. Walnut in Altus. They are there Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. First United Methodist Church provided MOW with bottled water to give to those in need.

Mission on Wheels fans project donations netted 26 fans for the elderly. Twenty-two of those were given away here in Altus and four were taken to Hollis for distribution.

Mission on Wheels is “on the move” again to provide students with school supplies and school clothing at their Back-to-School events. Last year’s MOW Back-to-School school supplies giveaway served 375 students. They’re aiming even higher this year, hoping to have enough supplies for 400 students. That will require a lot of pencils, backpacks and crayons, so they will be holding a bake sale to raise money for school supplies.

MOW will be at Wal-Mart on Saturday, July 28, at 8 a.m., to raise money and accept donations of school supplies. They’ll have baked goods for sale and a collection container for school supplies.

In preparation for the sale, MOW will be closed July 23 through the 27. Volunteers to help organize school clothing are needed. Those who wish to volunteer, or donate items for the bake sale, please call Edna Douglas at 580-649-8620.

On Monday, July 30, donations will be received for children’s and youth school clothes. Those donations will be taken from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Back-to-School Giveaway will be held Monday, Aug. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. Watch for details on the location of the event.

The Back-to-School clothing giveaways will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, and Friday, Aug. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Donations for monetary support or school supplies from clubs and organizations are appreciated. A collection box for school supplies will also be located at the Altus Times.
