| | | Seventy-six year old Sammie Wayne Cates, of Mangum is being held in the Greer County Jail for the death of his wife, Alice Cates. An affadavit filed with the Greer County District Court is charging Cates with first degree manslaughter for causing the severe injuries that led to Alice Cates’ death. According to Mangum Chief of Police, Scott Paxton, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has been conducting the investigation. The affadavit states that during a domestic disturbance on June 1, Cates repeatedly hit his wife’s head against a wall and then pushed her down so hard she broke her hip. The affadavit states that he then forced her to leave their home. According to a release from the OSBI, Alice Cates drove to Altus, to the home of her daughter. She was treated and released by JCMH. Another trip to an Elk City hospital disclosed Alice Cate’s hip fracture. She had hip replacement surgery on June 11 at OU Medical Center in Edmond, but died there on June 22. | | |
