This September 15, Sheridan’s Sunshine Foundation will be fielding “TEAM SHERIDAN” and walking in honor and remembrance of Sheridan Nicole Bautista at the second annual CureSearch Walk in Oklahoma City at the OU Children’s Hospital. Last year “Team Sheridan” led by Sheridan Nicole, raised over $7,000 for cancer research; she was such an inspiration to all as she walked a portion of this event just three short months after having limb salvage surgery. With everyone’s help, our team hopes to exceed last year’s goal.

The CureSearch Walk funds the Children’s Oncology Group which is the world’s largest, cooperative children’s cancer research entity. Through their research, they have turned children’s cancer from a virtually incurable disease 40 years ago to one with an overall cure rate of 78 percent today. However, despite major advancements in recent years, much work still remains to find treatments and cures for children’s cancer as it continues to be the leading cause of death by disease in children in the United States. The CureSearch Walk was very important to Sheridan and she vowed to walk in it to help raise awareness and funds for a cure. Sheridan always wanted to help other children with cancer and since her passing in December of last year, and the establishment of her foundation in February; we have continued her wish of doing just that.

You can help support “TEAM SHERIDAN” in several ways. You can join the team by going to www.curesearchwalk.org and register there to be an actual walker or a “virtual walker” if you cannot actually be there on the day of the walk. Donations can be made to the team on the website as well. Also several businesses in town will have jars where people can make donations. Jars are located at Quizno’s of Altus, La Plaza Mexican Restaurant and Brewer’s Discount Auto Supply. The foundation would like to help CureSearch and the Children’s Oncology Group find a cure for all childhood cancers. For this they need research and for that, they need funding. Every dollar that is donated will go straight back into research to help find a cure. Please consider joining “TEAM SHERIDAN” and help make a commitment to finding a cure for childhood cancer.
