Western sweeps two from Rams

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers brought out the big bats in their season opener on Thursday against Texas Wesleyan University junior varsity. Along with they brought home a pair of victories winning the first game 13-2 before taking the nightcap 12-2.

In the first game left fielder Randolph Oduber made his presence known quickly. The 6-2, 185-pound freshman from Paradera, Aruba hit two home runs and beat out a grounder for an field hit.

Last year’s team leading hitter, Danny Almonte went four for four.

The most impressive pitching performance of the day came from Dillon Wilson. The 6-7, 190 pound freshman from Verden hurled three innings. He struck out the side in two of the innings and finished with seven punch outs.

Texas Wesleyan is a four-year NAIA team. They are coached by former Texas Rangers players Mike Jeffcoat and Rusty Greer.

Western will play its first home game on Monday when they host Vernon, Texas Junior College. The first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
