County sales tax revenue sets record

The Jackson County Commissioners met for their regular Monday meeting on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m.

They approved the minutes from last meeting on August 6. There were no reports.

In Officers’ reports, Jackson County Treasurer, Renee Howard distributed information regarding the sales and use taxes collected during the month of June. These are posted to the County accounts in August. Sales taxes were the highest on record for any June since the spread sheet started in 2002. The amount was $125,824.12, down from last month’s figures, which were the second highest month since 2002. The use taxes were down, at $3,136.09, which was the lowest since 2010. Howard also included cigarette tax figures, which are collected one month prior. Those collected in July were $1,792.29, up slightly from June’s $1,680.74.

Also in Officers’ reports, Commissioner Chair, Marty Clinton announced employee meetings will be held Tuesday, August 21 with Legal Shield. This company provides legal services for employees.

Blanket purchase orders from the Health Department were approved.

The commissioners opened a bid for recycle reject concrete. Moody Landfill Recycling LLC was the lone bidder with $10 per ton. This was approved.

The Commissioner’s Proceedings for the month of July were approved for publication.

There was no new business.

The claims were approved and the meeting adjourned at 10:08 a.m.
