Bobby Gene Payne, 81, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at English Village Manor in Altus. He was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Weleetka to Walker Fred and Katherine Benita (London) Payne.

He married Dorothy F. Smith in 1955, and they had four daughters. He later married Rina F. Ingram and had one daughter and one son.

Bob retired from the United States Air Force in 1970 and bought the Sonic Drive-in. He was well known for his food and devotion to his chosen career. He retired from the Sonic in 1995. Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion and was very active in the area Bowling leagues. He loved Golf and playing Bingo at the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy; one daughter, Janet; five sisters and four brothers.

Bob is survived by four daughters, Terry Wells and husband Vic of Altus, Susan Waldron and husband Ken of Duncan, Jennifer Payne of Yukon, and Angel Baartman and husband Jeremiah of Kingfisher; one son, Bobby Payne, Jr. of Altus; four brothers, James Payne of Norman, Douglas Payne of Bedford, Texas, Patrick Payne and wife Debbie of Shawnee, and Richard Payne and wife Jerrie of Duncan; three sisters, El Reno Kinslow and husband Marvin of Terrell, Texas, Nova Collier and husband Willard of Mid West City, and Judy Wester and husband Joe of Checotah. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
