In what must seem like a dream come true, Altus Christian Academy (ACA) has made the big move to their new facility. Located at 1220 N. Grady, in Altus, ACA started holding classes there on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Not all the construction is 100 percent complete, but being allowed into the facility just in time for school was perfect timing, Principal Dana Darby said.

ACA offers PreK through sixth grade with part-day and full-day Kindergarten classes. Featuring very low teacher to pupil ratios for all the classes, their maximum student to classroom teacher ratios are PreK through 1st grade 12 to one and 2nd grade and up 14 to one. ACA has been in existence for six years and earned its accreditation by the Association of Christian Schools International this summer.

Darby said, the architects did an outstanding job on the design of the facility. Special care was taken to include age-appropriate equipment with the latest innovations for safety and security. Energy savings and material conservation were considered in the design and construction. All the doors are locked during the day, with daytime pick-up of children through a front door on Grady Street. Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up is accomplished through the back of the facility to expedite the process and maintain security.

ACA has plenty of room to grow and offer students new technology. A spacious multipurpose room doubles as a lunch room, conference center and will come in handy for play when inclement weather arrives. The teachers have a nice kitchenette, and a copying center, that is understandably home to many boxes at the moment. There’s room for a future media center for various types of interactive learning.

The age-divided play area behind the facility will have more equipment installed within a week or two.
