Two family practice physicians considering JCMH

During this week’s Jackson County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees meeting, Jim Wilson reported on physician recruitment activity. Wilson said that two family practice physicians completing the residency program in Wichita Falls are considering opportunities with JCMH. He also said that recruitment efforts continue for another pediatrician, emergency medicine physicians and a psychiatrist.

Dale Watson gave an update on AROK, a purchasing coalition through VHA Oklahoma/Arkansas. The purpose is for the 16 member hospitals to unite, commit and aggregate volume to get additional value and more control of the supply chain. The total savings for all member hospitals from 2009 to date is $17 million with savings to JCMH of $387,000.

Jim King reported the highlights from the Performance Improvement Council meeting held on August 1.

Michelle Ford reported that the outreach clinics had a total of 237 admissions and 126 outpatient surgeries and observations that were contributed to JCMH for the month of July. Dr. Lindsey King, Pediatrician, joined the Pediatric Clinic in July. Dr. Eugene Chen, General Surgeon, will join the JCMH Medical Clinic September 10.

Fixed Assets from Funded Depreciation and Designated Funds to Funded Depreciation were approved in the amount of $162,102.53.

The board approved the purchase of a recertified IHC Stainer from Biocare in the amount of $68,950 as presented by King.

The board approved the purchase of a Urine Analyzer from Iris in the amount of $88,956 as presented by King.

The board approved the conflict of interest statement, with notated changes, determining there were no conflicts disclosed by the JCMH Board of Trustees for the period ending June 30, 2012.

Dr. Powers, Chief of Staff, reported from the JCMH Medical Staff Executive Committee meeting that was held on Aug. 13. The Board approved the following recommendations:

1. Credentials Committee:

a. Initial Appointment:

i. Eugene D. Chen, MD – General Surgery, Active Staff – Dr. Chen was approved for surgical privileges. His request for laparoscopic procedures will be reviewed by the Credentials Committee in September.

ii. Zackary “Cole” Morgan, APRN-CRNA – Anesthesia, Affiliate Staff

iii. Dusti Ellison, LPN – Surgical Assistant for Dr. Duncan

iv. Kelly L. Koenig, DO – Emergency Medicine, Courtesy Staff

v. Maria Moore, MD – Oncology/Hematology, Courtesy Staff

vi. Senthil Nachimuthu, MD – Cardiovascular Disease, Courtesy Staff

b. FPPE Update for Lindsey King – Dr. King is being proctored by Dr. Sheets on circumcisions.

c. Sarah Milling, PA, has been deployed to Afghanistan and will be gone until May 2013.

d. The Radiology Privilege Form was approved with minor changes

e. The Radiology Technologists and Nuclear Medicine job descriptions were reviewed and approved by Dr. Newman, Radiologist.

Nancy Davidson presented the financials for the month of July, which resulted in a net income of $444,626.

Before the meeting adjourned, Wilson stated that The Joint Commission surveyors were here two weeks ago for the tri-annual unannounced survey of the hospital and of Home Care/Hospice. Jackson County Memorial Hospital has again received full accreditation for all services.
