Due to a break in the supply line from Tom Steed Reservoir, the City of Altus implemented mandatory water rationing on Friday.

Delivery of water was interrupted to Altus after a valve on a supply pipeline. about three miles from the lake, broke. The City of Altus issued the mandatory water rationing until supplies could be restored. The plan was to pump and treat water from the Altus Water Treatment Plant.

Although emergency management officials could not give an approximate length of time until regular water supplies would be returned to the City, repairs were completed that evening.

Water flow was restored to normal levels for both the pipeline and regulating tank by 7 p.m. Friday, which allowed water transportation between Tom Steed Reservoir in Kiowa County, and Altus.

Although water has been restored, drought conditions continue, and Lloyd Colston, Altus Emergency Management Director, asks citizens to continue conserving water on a voluntary basis.
