Man on cycle air-evaced to hospital after hitting deer

An Altus man was air-evaced to the hospital after a motorcycle accident with a deer around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Aaron Roeder, 26, of Altus, was driving a 2008 Honda motorcycle westbound on Lodge Road at Quartz Mountain State Park when the accident occurred.

OHP stated that Roeder was exceeding the posted speed limit when he struck a 90-pound deer that was standing in the roadway.

Roeder was taken by air evac to Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal and external injuries. There were no passengers.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Kevin Miller of the Harmon County Detachment of Troop M, and was assisted by Lt. George Dickerson, Troopers Ryan Hayes, Shawn Laughlin and Anthony Linares, Quartz Mountain Park Rangers, Greer County EMS, and the Greer County Sheriff’s Department.
