The Altus Public School District Board of Education met Monday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in the Administrative Center with all members present. The board welcomed Col. Michael Greiner as an ex-officio board member representing Altus Air Force Base.
In the Superintendent’s Reports and Comments section, Board President Darrell Moss said that all District schools have received accreditation with two schools designated as School Improvement Sites, Will Rogers and Roosevelt. Roosevelt was removed from the improvement status due to higher spring test scores.
The board approved the claims.
The Consent Agenda was approved, including: A. August 16, 2012, Regular Board Meeting Minutes B. Monthly Reports Regarding Status of: a. Treasury b. Budget Expenditures c. Activity Funds d. Cafeteria Funds C. Appointment of Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee D. Appointment of District Professional Development Advisory Committee E. Continued Participation in the Oklahoma Public School Unemployment Compensation Account F. Statewide Alternative Academy Plan for FY13 G. Rental of School Facilities H. Agreement with Headstart and I. Activity Fund Raisers for 2012-13.
Two new policies were introduced and several policies were revised. These were to comply with current regulations. The board approved all of these policies which included: New: Graduation Ceremony and Course Credit at Technology Center. Revised: Online Instruction, Drug Testing Employees, Food Procurement, Substitutes, Association Leave-Support, Jury Duty-Support, Grading, Requirements for Graduation, Harassment, Prohibiting Harassment (Regulation), Prohibiting Harassment (Investigation Procedures), Harassment Incident Report Form, and Reading Sufficiency.
The board approved the acceptance of Retirements for Certified: Bob Drury, Superintendent, effective 6/30/13, and Nancy Evans, Curriculum Director, effective 6/30/13. Non-Certified: Ulysees Bridges Custodian at RO effective 8/24/12. There were no resignations. The Superintendent position will be open until filled.
Board members approved the Reassignment of District Personnel to include a change in salary for Non-Certified: Olivia Cantu, Joe Harkins, and Rachel Richardson.
The following were also approved by the board: Substitutes - Jacklyn Ellis, Ashley Hope Gunter, and Jennifer Senn. Volunteer - William St. Clair AHS Girls Soccer. Extra Duty Assignments - Patricia Annis.
There was no executive session.
Approved Non-Certified Personnel on a Temporary Contract included Debbie Freeze, and Leticia Lara.
The annual Financial Statements and Estimate of Needs for the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2013 were approved for County and State requirements.
A sewer line fix will be required in a remodeled section at Altus High School. Pat Burke, of ACME, a contractor for the project, said they will stand by the work. “We haven’t ignored the problem. We will get it fixed,” Burke said. If the problem is fairly simple, it will be accomplished within five to six days. If it requires more extensive work, the project will be delayed until summer. Burke said a certain amount of retainage (money paid the contractor) will be held (by the District) until the matter is fixed.The sewer line serves the Special Education Department and Library.
The board approved holding a Masonic Cornerstone ceremony for the Remodel and Reconstruction at AHS. This will be held Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.
There was no new business, and the meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
