Main Street Altus was one of 20 organizations chosen to participate in annual event put on by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful. Saturday, Sept. 15 and 22, Main Street Altus and volunteers from the Altus Air Force Base will continue to participate in the annual “Fresh Paint Day,” a statewide beautification program through Keep Oklahoma Beautiful. According to Amy Jo Cobb, Main Street Altus program manager, “This program makes use of donated paint, a little creativity, elbow grease and willing volunteers.” Twenty-five volunteers came out the first day of the three days scheduled for this event.
KOB’s Fresh Paint Day, co-sponsored by Public Service Company of Oklahoma and H.I.S. Paint Manufacturing, and provides each community with seven gallons of paint and a $75 budget for supplies. Additional sponsors are City of Altus, Sherwin Williams and Whataburger, who have contributed equipment, supplies and food coupons for our volunteers.
“Our Fresh Paint Day is taking place at 209 North Main that houses two businesses. It’s a great business location right on Main Street. We thought a little fresh paint could make a difference to draw attention to both businesses,” said Cobb. “Volunteers from Altus Air Force Base have been wonderful in taking on Main Street projects as their community service, but we also want to extend the invitation to anyone who would like to get involved in making our downtown the best it can be to come down Saturday morning and join us.” Cobb said.
