ALTUS – Fashion, food and fun will be the talk of Altus this month. The American Red Cross invites the public to attend the Red Cross Style Show in Altus at 11a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. The show will be held at the First United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10.

The show will feature local models and styles in the community. This year’s theme is “Team Red Cross” which will highlight the importance of teamwork. Companies will decorate the tables to go along with the theme. Lunch will also be served and an auction will be held to raise money for the Red Cross.

The Style Show comes after a very active summer for the Red Cross. Wildfires across the state kept volunteers and staff busy providing services to fire fighters. This includes providing snacks, water, Gatorade and meals while responders work to put our fires. Disaster services are one of the most visible and active services the Red Cross provides.

The Altus office serves four counties in southwest Oklahoma. In the last year, the Altus disaster response volunteers were called out to 24 different events, assisted 19 families, and provided services for 439 in mass care for big events like wildfires. All of this couldn’t be done without the help of volunteers and contributions from the community.

“We’re always welcome donations so we can continue preparing, preventing and responding to local emergencies and disasters,” said Rosalyn Hall, Response Specialist with the American Red Cross in Altus. “However, donations also help fund other programs the Red Cross offers.

The Altus Red Cross office offers health and safety classes, Services to the Armed Forces and community disaster education. All of this is possible thanks to donations and fundraisers like the Style Show.
