The author of a brand new Abernathy Boys book is the featured speaker at the upcoming annual Tillman County Historical Society meeting.

The book is titled "Struggles in a New State: The 1910 Journey of the Abernathy Boys as a Framework of the Political Issues and Societal Changes in Oklahoma," and is written by attorney Larry Lewis. Mr. Lewis will be the speaker at the annual meeting of the Tillman County Historical Society which will be held on Thursday evening, March 12, 6:30 p.m., at the Great Plains Technology Center’s Frederick campus, 2001 E. Gladstone.

Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at Frederick’s Pioneer Townsite Museum, Benson-and-Benson Attorneys, or reserved by phone at 580-335-5844 or 580-335-7541. The meeting’s meal will be prepared by Melissa’s All-Occasion Catering, Frederick.

Lewis, an Oklahoma City attorney, has done extensive research about Bud and Temple Abernathy’s famous 1910 trip to New York City, and also writes about the political climate and technological developments of that era. Although most citizens of Tillman County are well-familiar with the story of the Abernathy Boys’ adventures, Lewis’ book provides fascinating new information, historical context, and insight that will help to better understand and appreciate the remarkable story of the two Tillman County boys in 1910. Everyone who loves history and the Abernathy Boys’ story should plan to attend the March 12 meeting. You don’t have to be a member of the Tillman County Historical Society, although everyone is welcome to join the Society.
