The Eldorado Public School and the community of Eldorado are teaming together for the 1st annual Eldorado Courier Main Event on Saturday, Oct. 27 in downtown Eldorado.

The inspiration for the event was the need for new equipment for the ambulance service, new equipment for the school and to honor what once was the oldest published paper in Jackson County.

Through the planning phases, the event has been greatly received throughout the community and local area. They have had many local businesses and individuals step-up to help sponsor the event.

This will be a family fun day starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with registration for a motorcycle poker run. Prizes will be awarded for the best and lowest hand and drawings for numerous other prizes.

They are hoping to have many of the outstanding cooks from the local area along with several others returning home to participate in the cook-off. Cooks are encouraged to cook anything of their choice. The varied cuisine will be judged by the public. People can buy a hand stamp which will allow them to sample from each cook and then vote for their favorite dish. Prizes for the cook-off will be an outdoor grill for 1st, cooking utensils for 2nd and 3rd. In order to give the cooks plenty of time to create their masterpieces the cooks may set up as early as 6 p.m. Friday evening. Heidi Price is committee chair for this event and she can be reached at 580-318-6800.

The Car Shine and Show will begin at noon. They have a number of great classic cars in Eldorado but would like to invite everyone with a car that they would like to show to come join them. Car shows always seem to bring a lot of great people who enjoy talking cars and catching up with old friends and sharing memories created with their former cars. Contact person for the Car Shine and Show is Tim Springs, 580-633-2725.

In order to give the ladies or gentlemen a place to show off their skills, there will be a Quilt and Arts and Crafts Show. This will be an opportunity to show both new and old quilts and any handmade crafts. It is always interesting and amazing to see the time and skill that goes into the making of a quilt. Contact person for the Quilt, Arts and Craft Show is Pat Freeman, 580-633-2787.

The school will have booths/games for the public to play. One of these booths has been a part of the Eldorado School Carnival for over 50 years. The Junior Class will have a concession that will be open for breakfast through dinner. They will be serving drinks and meals. They also have some vendors scheduled to come, but would like to invite all vendors to come enjoy the day with them. Contact person for the vendors is Sherry Weddle, 580-318-1680.

Not to leave the children out, there will be a Halloween costume contest and parade with prizes at 4 p.m. Categories are most beautiful, scariest, and most original.

What event would be complete without live music? They have several local bands scheduled to play. This should be a fun filled day for all family members. The town of Eldorado invites you to come and share the day with them. Additional contact numbers are 580-471-1090 and 580-633-2245.
